Complex Regional Pain Syndrome

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome

This condition is quite frequent in patients with shoulder surgery. This is a very frustrating condition to treat because most medical aids refuse to pay for treatment. The incidence in the normal population is about 8%. The condition is usually manifested with pain in the skin with touch (sheets or clothing touching the skin, water droplets or even when a soft breeze blows over the skin, can cause pain) The pain is out of proportion to the stimulus. There is usually discoloration of the skin either blue or red. If untreated the condition causes a stiff atrophic limb.

Treatment

The medication works on the nervous system. Anti-depressants, stabilizers of the nervous system and painkillers. Physiotherapy also aids in getting rid of this condition.
