Dr. PJJ Strobos is a husband, a father, a friend and a trusted surgeon to many.
He brings a wealth of experience and a warm heart to his work. He earned his medical degree from the University of Pretoria and later specialised in Orthopaedics at the University of the Free State.
He has been in private practice since 1998, dedicating his life to helping patients regain their mobility and live pain-free.
In 2002, he discovered his passion for the fascinating world of shoulder surgery, particularly in the delicate field of arthroscopic shoulder surgery.
With over two decades of experience, Dr. Strobos has performed surgery on more than 15,000 shoulders. This remarkable track record is a reflection of his dedication to improving the lives of those suffering from shoulder conditions. His mission is to help you regain mobility and alleviate pain so you can enjoy life to the fullest.
Dr. Strobos is renowned for his inspiring attitude to always be better, encourage those around him to be better and make the environment around himself, his team and his patients the best. That is what makes him not only an exceptional surgeon; but also an internationally recognised expert in his field.
He’s shared his knowledge and research findings with colleagues worldwide, and his work on rotator cuff repairs has advanced shoulder surgery techniques.
Over the past decade Dr. Strobos has worked tirelessly to bring his vision of Johannesburg Surgical Hospital to life. As of September 2023, he alongside the JSH board of directors, Douglas Ramaphosa and the Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi celebrated the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, declaring the Johannesburg Surgical Hospital officially open for business.
He said, at the opening, “We want to make a difference with a state-of-the-art hospital. We want to educate staff, patients and people. To create a first-class medical facility and to break boundaries.”
This dedication to constant improvement is a testament to his commitment to providing the best care possible.

When he isn’t inspiring those around him and saving shoulders, you’ll find him enjoying a glass of fine wine at Kleine Constantia – a tranquil guest house in Roodepoort run by himself and his wife Marisa.
He loves keeping his shoulders strong and mobile with a round of golf; his hands and brain alert with detailed woodwork and enjoying his exquisite train collection.
